General biology

It is an emerging multidrug-resistant yeast identified in hospital outbreaks, and survives on surfaces and tolerates disinfectants better than many yeasts, and can colonize skin and persist in healthcare environments. Forms resilient aggregates and biofilms under some conditions. Grows as yeast cells; sexual cycle not observed in clinical context. Transmission is primarily nosocomial between patients and equipment. Rapid spread driven by healthcare networks and inadequate control
